Sony Vaio VGN-SZ Laptop Dirty Fan

On one of my service calls i received due to a hot case bottom and noisy fan on a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ. After initial inspection it was determined that a wall of dust had accumulated in front of the exhaust heat-sink vents about 1/4 inch thick causing the fan to be overworked and shorting the life expectancy of the fan (rattling noise ie: shot bearings) and blocking the flow of air trying to get through that wall of dust to cool down the processor properly. Once replaced with a new fan and cleaning out the copper air vents everything was back to normal, proper cooling now the laptop is only getting warm (normal) instead of blistering hot and the fan is now emitting the proper fan decibel sound for normal everyday use. which comes to my Tech Tip: laptops are more prone to the accumulation of dust just due the nature of the machine meaning its portable and probably sees more mobile action, that being said as i tell my clients that the fan in a laptop should be treated as if it were any normal house ceiling fan that runs on a normal basis that when they clean the house don’t they clean the fan blades edges on a normal basis due to the accumulation of dust on it? the reply is almost 100% yes, well then the same applies to all electronic equipment with moving fans to help cool them down ( ie: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, nintendo, DVR, VCR, DVD Player, Amp, Receiver) all you need is a $4 can of electronic duster or canned air almost found at any electronic store. Just blow out or in to vents of the heat-sink from left to right every other month and presto no more cooling issues or units getting hot, running smoother, and you will definitely prolong that electronic equipment from either catastrophic shutdown failure or a visit from me and a bill.
